Oct 11th: Voices from Burma<br>
6:30pm-8:30pm

Burma is a society in which those who attempt to speak freely often face dire consequences. Artists, journalists, academics, cartoonists, novelists and even comedians are today censored directly or silenced by fear. Those brave enough to speak out face torture, harassment or prison.

The Voice of Witness book, Nowhere to Be Home: Narratives from Survivors of Burmašs Military Regime, represents an unparalleled achievement: a collection of diverse voices from Burma at a time when freedoms of speech and expression are categorically denied by the country's military junta. The book, released this year and funded in part by the Open Society Foundations, provides compelling, in-depth oral histories of men and women from a range of ethnic groups living within Burma and in its border countries.
