Brooding Middle Eastern grooves - part Persian classical, part contemporary world fusion, are the basis of the sophomore effort from ensemble Axiom of Choice. UNFOLDING, a sonic interpretation of the poetic works of Omar Khayyam (the "Rubaiyat"), presents a plethora of exotic sounds that captures the spirit of love and beauty inherent in the author's verses. The opening track, "Mystics and Fools," is one of the album's most enchanting pieces, using an array of searing strings and toe-tapping percussion to build an intoxicating atmosphere. Following are tunes like "Evanescent" and "Ancient Sky," which uses heavy synthesizer textures, as well as instruments like the ney, saz, dudek and guitar to create a mystical mood.
