In 2003, The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) produced the Bali Concord II, which initiated the ASEAN Economic Community, a bold, pragmatic, and unified strategy to integrate the economies of East Asia through the East Asian Summit (EAS). President Barack Obama plans to attend the East Asia Summit in October 2011 with the promise of cooperation with the EAS on its agenda and initiatives.
