Karen Ford’s interest in textiles goes back to her studies at FIT, where she learned about the history and construction of different fabrics and found herself particularly fascinated by the construction of felt- the oldest textile known worldwide, which originates from Central Asia. To Ford, felting seemed a natural complement to her ceramic work. As in her ceramic pieces, Karen Ford’s apparel strives to harmonize the relationship between form, function and nature and deals with color, texture, and movement. In doing so, she successfully creates beautiful, functional art that enhances everyday life.
