Dita Sandico Ong had the vision to embrace an ecologically-friendly design and production process, transforming the use of banana, abacca and other natural plant fibers into a fashion art form, revolutionizing the Philippine natural fiber industry by providing communities in dying industries with more sustainable income and giving life to struggling cultural heritage.
Dita's unique designs take inspiration from nature, paying homage to Mother Nature and the human spirit of community caring. She applies her designs on natural fabric; sensitive to energies at play around her. The process of creating the fabrics for her beautiful wraps, in itself, is a labor of love. It’s a tedious process with the farmers’ stripping, knotting, and weaving of the yarn. The farmers who do this, used to fish for a living in the past, however with the constant onslaught of calamities and the dwindling marine industry, Ditas’ work is giving the villagers in a small town in Catanduanes, a new source of hope. Providing them with the means to send their children to school, and money for their daily subsistence.
